Robert Enke to return soon

With his injury healing up, Robert Enke looks ready to return to full duties. While he is naturally behind technically with his timing, given the layoff, he is brimming with confidence and anxious to return.

When asked of what it was like to get back into action, he said that, “It was a great feeling, even if it was only a friendly. Obviously I am still not 100 percent. I have to gain real game experience. So right now it doesn’t particularly matter if I misjudge a cross. I have to regain my timing and chemistry with my teammates.”

Of missing the past few months, he added that, “of course it hurt to sit and watch, both at the club level and with the national team, especially the matches against Russia and Wales. But other players have experienced considerably more injuries than me, so I can’t really complain. In 14 years I never had a serious injury.”

He has not given up on retaining his spot on the Joachim Löw’s selection, noting that, “(it) will be an open competition. Rene played two-and-a-half games, I played in four matches before my injury. I don’t think a decision was made during this period. The next six months will certainly be decisive, but I have to concentrate on taking small steps right now.”

His comeback continued in this past Friday’s friendly against FC Augsburg and playing the first forty-five he looked solid, showed his typical leadership and well on the way to feature against Schalke on January 31.
